Selling Wholesale Phones in Trinidad and Tobago: A Carrier Compatibility Guide for Resellers

Trinidad and Tobago is one of the strongest resale markets in the southern Caribbean, and it's badly underserved by wholesale content. Most distributors lump it in with "the Caribbean" and move on. That's a mistake, because Trinidad has a specific carrier landscape, and if you buy phones that don't match the local bands, you're sitting on inventory nobody wants.

Here's what actually matters when you're stocking phones for the Trini market, from someone who ships there every week.

The Two Networks That Matter: Digicel and bmobile

Trinidad and Tobago runs on two carriers, Digicel and bmobile (operated by TSTT), and they split the market roughly down the middle. That 50/50 split is good news for resellers: you don't have to bet on one network. A phone that works on both covers essentially every customer walking into your shop.

Both carriers have been pushing 5G rollouts over the past two years. bmobile launched 5G NR first, and Digicel now has 5G live in Marabella, San Fernando, Debe, and Penal. For resellers, that means 5G-capable mid-range phones are no longer a luxury spec — they're becoming an expectation in urban areas.

The LTE Bands Your Phones Need

This is where dead stock happens. Both Digicel and bmobile run LTE on three key bands: Band 2 (1900 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz), and Band 28 (700 MHz). Band 28 is the one most resellers miss. It's the low-frequency band both carriers use for indoor penetration and coverage outside the cities, and plenty of US-market phones don't include it.

Before you commit to a bulk order, pull the spec sheet for the exact model number and confirm B28 support. A phone that only has B2 and B4 will work in Port of Spain but drop to 3G the moment your customer drives out to Mayaro. Those are the phones that come back.

What to Stock for the Trini Market

Factory unlocked, always. Carrier-locked US phones are a headache you don't need. Beyond that, three categories move consistently:

    • Samsung Galaxy A series — the workhorse of the market. The A-series hits the price point Trini customers pay cash for, and current models carry full B28 support. See our wholesale Samsung inventory for what's in stock.

    • Refurbished iPhones — iPhone 12 through 14 in A/A- grade sell fast to younger buyers who want the badge without the flagship price. Our wholesale iPhone page lists current grades and pricing.

    • Budget Android (Xiaomi, BLU, Tecno) — the volume play. Lower margin per unit, but they turn over quickly and bring repeat foot traffic.

MOQ Economics from Miami to Port of Spain

Our minimum order is 30 units, FOB Miami, wire transfer. For Trinidad, that MOQ works in your favor: 30 phones fit in consolidated air freight through any of the Miami forwarders that run the POS route weekly, so you're not waiting on ocean containers or paying for space you don't fill.

Smart buyers mix the order — say, 15 Galaxy A units, 10 refurb iPhones, 5 budget Androids — to test what moves in their specific location before scaling up. We built our Trinidad and Tobago wholesale page around exactly this kind of mixed-order buying, and our Caribbean hub covers the wider regional logistics picture.

    Quick Checklist Before You Order

    • Confirm B28 (700 MHz) support on the exact model number, not just the product line.

    • Factory unlocked only — verify it's not carrier-locked or eSIM-only for a US carrier.

    • Ask your supplier for the IMEI list upfront so you can spot-check devices before they ship.

    • Budget for T&T customs duties and VAT in your landed cost, not as an afterthought.

    • Start with a mixed 30-unit order and let your own sales data pick the winners.
